Police serving BN in sex video probe, say PKR

Tian Chua
PETALING JAYA, April 29 — PKR said today the police’s impartiality in the ongoing sex video investigation has been compromised.

“The police are being used to be part of the Umno propaganda machine and dancing to the tune of the ruling parties,” said vice president Chua Tian Chang.

Fellow vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar said that party leaders received several SMSes from teachers in Kelantan complaining of a senior officer from Bukit Aman telling teachers that PKR de facto leader Anwar was a threat to the nation and definitely the man in the video.

The Lembah Pantai MP said teachers have complained that for four weeks in a row, an officer identifying himself as SAC I Datuk Dr Isa Abdul Rahman has been making the rounds in Kelantan schools.

Chua (picture) added that PKR election workers in the April 16 Sarawak state election were also approached by police officers “who swore it is Anwar and advised them not to get trapped in this scandal.”

“When we talk about the conspiracy and the involvement of Datuk Seri Najib Razak and BN, it is because there are too many incidence with too many unanswered questions,” said Nurul Izzah.

Anwar accused BN yesterday of using the video to keep power, citing its failure to charge the Datuk T trio for screening pornography despite claiming responsibility for it.

The 21-minute video, showing a man resembling the former deputy prime minister having sex with a woman with Far Eastern features, was first aired to reporters at the prestigious Carcosa Seri Negara hotel here last month by a man who identified himself as Datuk T.

A few days after the viewing, it was revealed that Datuk T was a moniker that collectively referred to businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim. During a March 24 press conference, Abdul Rahim said the video was exposed to show “a man who wants to be prime minister is not qualified.”

Former Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Mat Zain Ibrahim recently said another alleged Anwar sex tape had surfaced 12 years ago in 1999.

Zain had asked the police to investigate any possible links between the two tapes and whether Abdul Gani could be trusted to discharge his duties professionally because of his past involvements in various anti-Anwar episodes.

The police are investigating the Datuk T trio under section 292 of the Penal Code for screening pornographic material.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said yesterday that the probe was still ongoing but was confident the police would resubmit investigation papers to the A-G by this week.

He also said police would not hesitate to “expose the performer” in the sex video.

Chua said today that the police was flip-flopping in their investigations.

He said that the report made by Anwar when the video first surfaced was regarding pornography and criminal intimidation and the police have stated that investigations were under section 292 of the Penal Code.

However, the police asked Anwar at the Dang Wangi station yesterday about the watch that was taken by the woman in the video, “creating the impression that Anwar is under investigation instead,” said Chua.

Chua added that the police said they have completed investigations but are now extending the probe based on the Attorney-General’s orders.

“Does the AG feel the need to satisfy his bosses? There is sufficient evidence to show that police are not carrying out the investigations in an impartial manner,” the Batu MP said.

Anwar’s lawyer R. Sivarasa also said yesterday that Anwar was not asked questions which were relevant to his original police report against the distribution of pornographic material.

“From the line of questioning, you can see that instructions are coming directly from the AG,” said the Subang MP.
