PAC probe begins on baggage-handling system

Members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) went on a walkabout in KL Sentral and KL International Airport (KLIA) this morning.

This marked the start of their probe into irregularities pointed out in the recently released Auditor-General's Report for 2010.

The first stop on their tour of inspection was at the baggage handling system in KL Sentral, which links the KL City Air Terminal with KLIA in Sepang, via electric train service.

The audit report had noted a series of delays and cost revisions in completing the baggage-handling system. Project costs shot up by 78.9 percent of its original estimate.

The system has not been utilised since completion in 2008 due to unresolved issues involving various parties.
