KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Gerakan Chairman, Gordon Leong Vui Cheung has urged Likas voters to vote wisely in the upcoming general election and choose a Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

He said, a BN government was in a better position to serve the people well, adding that after about four years of representation by an opposition assemblyman, it was about time they thought of their future.
He noted the Likas state constituency had traditionally been a BN stronghold before the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), a BN component member, pulled out of the BN coalition on Sept 17, 2008.

"After SAPP left the ruling BN coalition, Likas folks were indirectly deprived of 'a ruling government representative' that makes it easy for the government to give special attention to the needs of the people in this area," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending a meet-the-people session, jointly organised by Umno and Gerakan at Taman Antarabangsa in Likas, near here Sunday.

Likas is represented by SAPP deputy president Datuk Liew Teck Chan in the State Legislative Assembly.

Kota Kinabalu Umno vice chief, Datuk Fatimah Shara Ahmad Noor, gave her assurance that the Umno division would work together with other BN component parties to ensure BN candidate in Kota Kinabalu win in the election. She urged the voters not to be easily influenced by the opposition who only peddle empty promises. (DE)
