KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — A non-governmental organisation today gave police 48 hours to act against those who had shown disrespect to pictures of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders, failing which it would take to the streets in protest.
Warga Aman wants action against those who urinated on Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat’s photograph and stomped on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's pictures.
Warga Aman chairman Raja Ratnam Arumugam told reporters that the police must be balanced in their actions as they were seen to be acting only against those who recently stomped and mooned pictures of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"The police must work for the people, not just for Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).
"Governments come and go, but the police will remain the same," said Raja Ratnam.
He added that while the NGO does not support the actions of the students who mooned and stomped on the prime minister’s pictures, it wanted equal treatment to be meted out on those who stomped on the pictures of opposition leaders.
Raja Ratnam headed a Warga Aman delegation in handing over a memorandum on the matter to ASP Mohd Fouzi Halim, who represented the Malaysian Control Centre (MCC) Bukit Aman.
The police recently established a special task force to hunt down those who mooned the prime minister's pictures during the Janji Demokrasi gathering at Dataran Merdeka on the eve of National Day.
