Pakatan's gains are proof of 'Janji Ditepati'

The fact that Pakatan Rakyat is in power in four states shows that the BN government has "fulfilled its promise", said Information, Culture and Communications Minister Rais Yatim.

Saying this in the Dewan Rakyat during Question time today, he said that this also proves that the National Day theme 'Janji Ditepati'(Promises Fulfilled) is appropriate.

"With the system we have, the elected representatives from that side (the federal opposition) can serve their constituents and get praise, that is proof of janji ditepati.

NONE"Let's not talk too much. Your son is chief minister in Penang. Whose democratic system is this? Our democracy. You are in power now, our system gave you this. Janji ditepati," he replied to Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Ipoh Timor) (right).

Lim had asked how the government can claim that promises are fulfilled, citing several cases of alleged corruption, including the recent Bruno Manser Fund's report alleging that Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud has amassed wealth amounting to RM46 billion.

"It's been a while since we heard Ipoh Timor rant (meracau)...It's easy to criticise but difficult to build," said Rais.

He added that National Day should not divide the nation, but this was the stance taken by Pakatan Rakyat due to its "strong desires".

"Because of their strong desires, they influenced the people to think that way, by introducing alternate themes, logos and approaches."

Pakatan 'cowards'
Rais said this in answering a question by BN-Tenggara Halimah Sadique, who called opposition Mps "cowards" for opposing the janji ditepati theme.

"They are afraid of the theme because they know the BN government does fulfill all its promises. Cowards!" she said.

"Maybe they received funds from that rogue speculator Geoge Soros to be able to have their own (National Day) theme."

She also asked the minister how the government will ensure the "opposition government" will not compromise actions taken by the executive.
To this, Mahfuz Omar (PAS-Pokok Sena) interjected by saying: "There is no such thing as an opposition government. You've been an MP for so long and still don't understand this concept."
