PR's Orange Book seeks to address women's concerns

PR's Orange Book seeks to address women's concerns
Pakatan Rakyat has launched its manifesto dedicated to addressing issues involving women.
Dubbed the ‘Malaysia Women Agenda’ (MWA), an addendum of sort to its much discussed Orange Book, it covers various topics on women's interest and the how the coalition would address them if it was voted in at the Federal level,
The document was officiated by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim at an event which heard speeches from the three leaders of PR parties’ women wings. They included PAS’s Rantau Panjang member of parliament Siti Zailah, PKR’s Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin and DAP’s Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng.
Also present were PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu and secretary general Mustafa Ali, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Seven key focus areas in the manifesto covers such issues as education, health and life, women’s involvement in economic opportunity, social wellbeing, democratisation, law enforcement on violence, domestic violence, sexual harassment and discrimination, and young women’s agenda.
In his speech, Anwar reminded PR’s women wing to use different approaches in addressing urban and rural voters.
“Our biggest challenge is women in rural areas,” he added, while saying that time was running out for PR to get their message across.
PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu meanwhile said women activists must work hard to counter the UMNO-controlled media.
