Soi Lek all 'hot & bothered' over Seai Kee: Does he want Gopeng for HIMSELF?

Soi Lek all 'hot & bothered' over Seai Kee: Does he want Gopeng for HIMSELF?
Given the unusual heat with which MCA president Chua Soi Lek has gone after a deputy minister, accusing her of putting her personal interest before their party's has sparked speculation that he may have earmarked for himself the Gopeng parliamentary seat currently held by PKR's Lee Boon Chye.
"Whether it's Heng Seai Kie or Chua Soi Lek, it doesn't matter to us. We are confident PKR will retain Gopeng. So it is pointless for Chua to lash out at Heng in such a wild way, it will only make MCA members lose more respect for him. No need to be so desperate," PKR vice president Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.
Chua did not mention Heng by name, but used the word 'her' to describe the "deputy minister" and Heng is the only female deputy minister in the MCA.
She secured her post after she was appointed a Senator by Prime Minister Najib Razak based on the MCA's recommendation.
Every man and woman for himself and herself
But it looks like it is now every man and woman for himself and herself as the next general election approaches, sending MCA leaders scrambling for so-called safe seats.
"If it was safe, Boon Chye wouldn't have won it in 2008," said Tian.
Indeed, Boon Chye had fought a tremendous fight in the 12th general election, dousing Ling Hee Leong, the flamboyant son of former MCA president Ling Liong Sik to wrest the seat which has been held by the MCA for decades.
A bitter Chua had told reporters during a trip to Ipoh that he had received complaints about Heng approaching top BN leaders and lobbying them to support her candidacy. He also accused her of "money politics".
"She should love the party more than herself," was Chua's grouse.
Heng however has denied Chua's charges. "Money politics is not my style. Besides, not everyone can indulge in it," she was quoted as saying.
Giving the MCA presidency a BAD NAME
The MCA currently has 4 full ministers and 7 deputy ministers in the Cabinet.
And while the convention in BN is to field the candidates recommended by the respective component parties, Prime Minister Najib Razak has already warned he will make the final decision. Incidentally, Najib is also the Women's minister and Heng is now his deputy following the recent resignation of Umno's Shahrizat Jalil from the top Women's job.
Perak Chief Minister Zambry Kadir has confirmed that the Gopeng seat would be given to the MCA to contest, although it had lost badly in the previous ballot. Boon Chye had trounced Hee Leong by a huge majority of 7,368 votes.

"MCA will represent the BN there, and I am convinced the MCA will field a credible candidate and we can recapture the seat in the next general election," Zambry told reporters after opening the Gopeng Umno  delegates meeting on Sunday.
"I would say Chua Soi Lek is giving the MCA presidency a bad name. When he was offered the post of chairman of the Penang Port Commission, he rushed for it even though that is actually a shame because it is the lowest official position ever accorded to an MCA president. But now it looks like he has gone from bad to worse," PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng told Malaysia Chronicle.
"By openly fighting with Heng for what is perceived to be a 'safe' seat, he confirms what the word is on the ground, which is that he is in a very weak position. In the MCA, there are still many conservative leaders and elders who won't be happy with Chua for lashing out at Heng so heatedly, he makes himself and the party look bad for fighting with a woman in public. It is a sad day when the president has to squabble with a very junior leader - regardless of gender - for a seat.
