State land bank grew more under PR than BN, says Penang CM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today said that the state now owns more land compared to when it was ruled by Barisan Nasional (BN), saying that this was due to prudent management.
The federal opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) took over Penang from BN in the 2008 elections, after the ruling coalition suffered its worst defeat at the polls.
“I want to say that the state government... we have more land than the previous state government,” Lim (picture) told reporters in Penang today.
He said this was “because we know how to do proper land management as well as financial management” in an audio recording made available to The Malaysian Insider.
“We are talking about net effect — you sell some, you also acquire some.”
Lim was asked to comment on the BN Youth challenging his administration to reveal all the state land sold since PR replaced BN.
The DAP secretary-general also said that all state land “is sold by public tender, they should be able to know.”
“They kept on saying the state government owns less land than before,” Lim said, claiming that this was “another lie” by BN.
