‘Gory videos shown to spook Chinese voters’

A PKR MP claims that the footages were shown at a police headquarters and the some 150 Chinese Rela members who attended were warned not to vote for the opposition.
KUALA LUMPUR: Several Barisan Nasional leaders in Balik Pulau used a police headquarters to show gory videos to scare Chinese voters, alleged Balik Pulau MP Yusmadi Yusoff.
Speaking at a press conference at the Parliament lobby today, Yusmadi said the incident occurred on Nov 18 at the Balik Pulau district police headquarters.
“On that day, about 150 Malaysia Volunteer Corps (Rela) officers of Chinese descent were called to attend a meeting, purportedly on crime prevention, at the police station.
“But upon arriving, they were shown videos on Bersih rallies and al-Maunah. They were also shown videos of Chinese people in foreign countries being tortured.
“At the end of it, the officers were told by the organisers that this is what would happen to the Chinese if they vote for Pakatan Rakyat,” he claimed.
Yusmadi said that he received a tip-off on the matter from several disgruntled Rela officers who attended the event.
He accused Balik Pulau Umno chief Hilmi Yahaya, BN coordinator for Balik Pulau Siti Faridah Arshad and a Gerakan man, Toh Chong Yee of organising the viewing.
Yusmadi urged Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar to provide an explanation.
“I have also requested the Balik Pulau police headquarters to provide a report as this matter could jeorpardise national security,” he said.
Yusmadi also threatened to take legal action against anyone who was behind the event.
“I don’t want any government agencies to be misused by politicians with vested interest,” he said.
