Musa vs Hisham: It's a dog-eat-dog world

your sayMahashitla: Are there any brave police officers who will now dare to come out and claim that Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein is interfering in the running of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM)?

For example, did Hishammuddin overrule the police standard operating procedure (SOP) and ordered police personnel to seize the videos and cameras of reporters during Bersih 3.0 rally?

Former inspector-general of police (IGP) Musa Hassan's allegations of Hishammuddin's meddling in the PDRM confirmed what has been lingering in most of our minds - that the PDRM has been manipulated to serve the interests of politicians.

Hisham's reaction to Musa's allegations is one of guilt. If he is innocent you can expect an immediate outrage of denial. Instead, Hisham is just playing for time and will have to consult the attorney-general on how to deny and defend such an indefensible act.

Gerard Lourdesamy: Musa is right for once. Operational control over the police lies with the IGP. The home minister only has political responsibility in that he answers for the police in Parliament.

The minister can determine policy when it comes to crime prevention, policing and law reform, but he cannot interfere in the day-to-day operations of the force.

But why did Musa keep quiet for so long? It is no secret that in Malaysia political interference in the police force and the Attorney-General's Chambers is common place.

But the holders of these offices should have had the guts to tell their political masters that the power is vested in them to conduct investigations and prosecutions, and not in the ministers.

It would be highly unethical, improper and unlawful for ministers to give such directions to the police force and the AG's Chambers.

AnakBangsaMalaysia: Musa, you're no hero. Whatever your motivations are for making these damaging revelations against Hishammuddin, when Pakatan Rakyat takes over Putrajaya, you too will have much to answer for.

Musa, the better thing for you is to say how you can contribute to stop this kind of behaviour by the minister.

As citizens, we have power - we can either use it or abuse it. You once abused it, now you can use it.

Ferdtan: It is not a personality that we care about. Former police chief Musa is never a person we like or trust.

However, it is pragmatic politics that we should welcome such damaging statements from him in demolishing the BN government that he so faithfully served in the past beyond his call of duty.

The only way to bring down the incumbent regime is implosion of BN by internal revolts. To help us to actualise the dream of having a two-party system, we have to bring BN down first.

Therefore, an enemy of my enemy is my friend. Musa, until then, you are officially our comrades in arms.

Headhunter: Now the cat is out of the bag, is Musa doing this to save his own skin, knowing that BN's time is running out?

It looks like this is the beginning of an exodus of former BN supporters and cronies. We have businessperson Deepak Jaikishan and now Musa. So who's next? Truly the BN ship is sinking and the rats are abandoning it.

Blind Freddo: You just have to admire these guys for their total lack of principles and courage.

Wilful Blindness: At least Musa has the guts to say it. It's good for all of us to know what's going on, rather than "you know I know this thing is happening" at the higher level.

Wanderer: Musa, come out with more interesting stories in which Umno leaders have a hand in.

Anything to add to the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu? Now is your chance to turn yourself from a villain to a national hero.

Louis: Past IGPs did not expose meddling by ministers because they were offered lucrative jobs like directors of big companies.

Even without this ex-IGP exposing Hishammuddin's meddling, we all know that the police were acting under the instructions of ministers.

Not Confused: More hypocrisy. Musa could have complained loudly and publicly if his authority was deliberately being undermined by the imbecilic home minister. Even in the police force, there must be a clear chain of command, as in the Armed Forces.

Once again this demonstrates that the home minister has absolutely no idea about how to carry out his responsibilities. He is partial and unprofessional. He opens his mouth and regularly plants both feet inside in clear public view.

He has no shame nor integrity, otherwise he would have resigned long ago.

Onyourtoes: Did you get appointed to any of the juicy commission or cushy government-linked companies (GLCs) or directorship in the private sector?

I am sure you got nothing so far. Who trusts what you said now about ministerial interference? Who cares anyway?

When the police force loses its professionalism and integrity, no one respects you anymore, not just the minister.

Why do you think the police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the judiciary, the attorney-general, the Immigration Department and the civil service in general are all subservient to the political masters?

All are incompetent and all with lots of integrity issues to hide.

Paul Warren: After reading the Deepak story, I thought someone more powerful than PM Najib Razak in Umno wants him out. But now it would seem like that person also wants Hishammuddin out as well.

Quigonbond: I actually pity Najib. He's clearly losing control of Umno whose little Napoleans have had enough of his middle path, ‘rock nothing' position - and they are coming out to do what they think is right (which by the way is wrong to the public) to ensure their political survival.

Musa is likely one of the pawns used by the DPM camp to remove the support from under the two cousins in the middle of Umno general assembly.

Hang Babeuf: As Umno meets in its fateful conclave, one cousin is "under the gun" politically for allegedly trying to "fix" lawyers and statutory declarations with a carpet man; the other cousin is under the gun for allegedly trying to fix, subvert, suborn police leaders and the chain of command. - Malaysiakini
