Najib was not trying to THREATEN the people - Muhyiddin
KUALA LUMPUR - Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the reminder by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak that the people should not give an opportunity to the opposition pact to rule the country, is not aimed at intimidating them.
He said the various administrative problems in the state under the administration of the opposition proved that they were incapable of forming a strong government to continue with the national development agenda.
"The prime minister's reminder on the matter is not meant to intimidate. We cannot gamble away the future of the country just because we want to try (for a change).
"This is not just our future but also involves the future our our children," he said when commenting on the policy speech of the Umno president in conjunction with the Umno General Assembly 2012, here today.
He said the country's administration could also become chaotic if the opposition were to rule, based on the clash of ideology seen in the states under opposition rule.
Muhyiddin's observation was also shared by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal who labelled the opposition as being incompetent in the aspect of administration.
The fact was that the opposition did not bring any development when given the opportunity to administer the state, he said, adding that the people should not use their future as well as that of their grandchildren's and country as a testing ground.
Meanwhile, Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin wanted the idea of changing the government merely for the sake of change should be "completely wiped clean" from the mind of the young generation.
Parti Bersatu Sabah president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the lack of consensus and the contradictions between the opposition clearly showed that they were incapable of ruling the country.
Meanwhile, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the Umno president's message was an early reminder to the people to make a smart choice in the 13th general election so that the country would not fall to the opposition.
Mohd Ali, who is also a member of the Umno supreme council, said as such, the BN machinery must work hard to ward off the slanders hurled by the opposition to win the hearts of the people.
