Subang Jaya businesses lament FIVE-FOLD hike in electricity bills

Subang Jaya businesses lament FIVE-FOLD hike in electricity bills
Residents and business owners in Subang Jaya are shocked to find sharp increase in their electricity bills, some by five-folds, following the recent conversion of their metres to digital ones.
PJS9 community deputy chief Mohamad Noor Ahmad said he felt victimised by Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s metre conversion plan, in which the existing analogue metres are replaced with digital metres, a move which has sparked concerns among consumers.
“Those whose metres have yet to be converted are still charged at the (lower) rate," he lamented, pointing out TNB's 'selective conversion'.
Ari Krishna, a business operator in Bandar Sunway, said his restaurant’s electricity bill shot up from RM648 in June to RM3,246 in September after the conversion.
“When complaint was lodged, TNB immediately cut off power supply at my business premise at 5pm which is the time my restaurant begins operation. I had no choice but to settle the bill because I feared I could not carry out business,” he added.
Ari said TNB should not changed metres without proper notification.
Subang Jaya state assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh meanwhile urged Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism ministry to compel TNB to reveal the profit gained through the newly installed digital metres.
She urged the national power company to form an independent panel for consumers to lodge complaint and query on the digital metres conversion exercise.
“We received complaints that bills are not sent monthly but the bills are based on estimation. The increase in electricity charges ranges from 50 to 100 percent. The residents should get justice (on this),” TV Selangor quoted her as saying.
