Another ceiling collapse, third for Serdang Hospital

The workmanship of the country's infrastructures is again under the spotlight after a section of the ceiling at Serdang Hospital collapsed, the second such incident in two days.

Serdang Hospital itself has been plagued by a series of falling ceilings and this is the third time the medical facility has experienced such a mishap in recent years.

NONEAccording toBernama, the ceiling of the hospital's maternity ward collapsed at around 2.55am but no injuries were reported.

The severity of the collapse is unclear but a hospital spokesperson toldBernama that an investigation was being conducted and the area was now off limits.

Last August, a doctor and three nurses were hurt when Serdang Hospital's emergency department collapsed.

NONEAnd in January 2011, the ceiling of the hospital's main lobby came apart, costing the government RM800,000 in repair works.

The Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh also faced similar problems when the ceiling of its specialist centre complex collapsed in October last year.

Today's collapse comes a day after the ceiling of the RM6 million Kampung Tebauk mosque in Kuala Nerus, Terengganu fell apart yesterday.
