Naughty Tian Chua

From AP 22 Oct 2009:

jaga jaga, he's as wriggly as a snake
what, he IS a snake lah, and he bites

wakakaka

A Malaysian court convicted a prominent opposition lawmaker Thursday of biting a policeman at an illegal protest — a verdict that could cause him to lose his Parliament seat.

Tian Chua was found guilty in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court on charges of hurting a policeman who tried to stop him from entering Parliament in December 2007 to protest a constitutional amendment.

Chua, a longtime ally of top opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a fine. The court was expected to sentence him later Thursday.

Legislators who are jailed for a year or fined more than 2,000 ringgit ($600) must vacate their Parliament seat.

Chua, a member of the People’s Justice Party led by Anwar, has denied biting the policeman.

“They fabricate this story,” Chua told reporters Thursday, calling the charge “ridiculous.”

Magistrate’s Court Judge Faizi Che Abu ruled that Chua’s testimony had inconsistencies and was not credible.

Chua’s testimony had inconsistencies and was not credible, wakakaka! Hardly surprising!

Hey, I may be used by Colgate as a model

wakakaka

Recall also the photoshop photograph of an alleged French dinner for three? Guess who was the author, wakakaka!

Now, he has been publicly called a LIAR by Lim Guan Eng for saying that DAP had agreed to PAS implementing hudud in Kelantan and Terengganu - see TMI's Guan Eng calls Tian Chua ‘irresponsible, unethical’ for lying over hudud issue.

TMI reported Lim GE saying: ... DAP leaders were shocked when Tian Chua declared in Chinese newspapers that implementing hudud laws in Kelantan and Terengganu is PR policy because it was agreed to by PR and DAP.

"Tian Chua’s lies were given wide coverage in the mainstream media despite it not being supported by facts or documentation.

"I have personally spoken to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveying the DAP top leadership’s anger at the lies spread by Tian Chua," he said in a statement today.

Anwar had reaffirmed in both his private conversation with me and public statements yesterday that DAP had consistently opposed the implementation of hudud laws on Muslims in Kelantan, he said.

"DAP leaders hope that Tian Chua will stop repeating such lies in view of Anwar publicly reaffirming that DAP had never agreed to the implementation of hudud laws by PAS anywhere," he said.

More interesting would be WHY Tian Chua has lied on the matter?

Aha, he did so in Chinese newspapers' reports?

I suspect he might have wanted to sabo DAP kau kau in the eyes of the Chinese, wakakaka.

Look, there's no love lost between the PKR Chinese faction headed by Tian Chua and DAP for the reason that the PKR Chinese lust after DAP's blue ribbon seats, wakakaka.

The truth about PKR (if we leave out the PRM component) is that it has been KeADILan has been UMNO. It undeniably possesses UMNO genes and characteristics though it claims to be multi-racial, a claim somewhat discredited by Anwar Ibrahim's poor treatment of many of its erstwhile Indian members who left in droves - now, if they hadn't, would Azmin Ali have a chance of becoming party deputy president?

Even Saifuddin Nasution, current candidate for the PKR deputy president post, has very recently confessed that PKR is principally a Malay party, ... and if I may add, with some sprinkling of Chinese and Indian coriander (Bahasa 'penjilang', Penang Hokkien 'uan suoi', Canto 'yimsai') on the PKR soup kambing, wakakaka.

So what has that got to do with Tian Chua?

Now, while the ex-UMNO members represent the power core of PKR and have undeniably dominate party policies and decision making, the nons like Tian Chua and his Chinese coriander dressing, wakakaka, don't. And precisely because of this, he and his 'yim sai' cohorts wakakaka want so desperately to demonstrate their relevance in the party.

it won't help you lah, wakakaka

That's because Tian Chua fears his Heavenly Snake (wakakaka) faction in PKR might not have a role at all, or at best only a token one, if Anwar Ibrahim were to see DAP as the Pakatan component to be given responsibility for Chinese and Indian majority constituencies.

Tian Chua's fear crystallized into reality when Anwar agreed to Uncle Lim standing in Gelang Patah in the 2013 general elections, and our police-biting martyr-wannabe made that issue into a contentious one within PKR, as reported in the Malaysia Chronicle’s MUTINY IN PKR: Anwar under fire for "betraying" members over seats. And someone told me Tian Chua is virtually running the Malaysian Chronicle, wakakaka.

Anyway, going back into the troubled history of PKR, especially its Chinese section, wakakaka, prior to 2008, in order to prevent such a terrifying Pakatan status quo, that of Anwar accepting DAP as the Pakatan component party to be given responsibility for Chinese and Indian majority constituencies, Tian Chua (together with the Dwarf) had the very naughty, nasty and nauseating habit of making pre-emptive announcements against DAP in seat allocations, by making unilateral media releases of seat allocations for Pakatan (not PKR) which strangely, that is if you believe in coincidences wakakaka, usually favoured PKR.

Of course those 'unilateral' announcements meant that DAP leaders would, after reading the morning news, invariably exclaim 'WTF!' wakakaka.

alamak, terdengar Tian Chua akan datanglah
jadi, perlu kami Polis berwaspada

wakakaka

Alas, despite all its pre-emptive strikes, the general success (or lack of) by PKR in elections has been noticeably inferior to DAP, even in Sarawak wakakaka, and coupled with the avalanche-like dominance of DAP in the Penang DUN, have dampened their (Chinese) members' confidence severely.

Thus it was hardly surprising these PKR members in Penang had prior to the 2013 general and state elections desperately sought Mansor Othman's assurances that he would not relinquish any of PKR's seats allocated in 2008, even the ones they lost, to DAP.

A second probable reason could be his intention to compromise DAP as a covert hudud supporter, despite this being very much contrary to the war of words over the past couple of weeks between DAP and PAS, so as to mitigate PKR's eventual declared support for PAS' plans to implement hudud in Kelantan, a la marilah, kita bersama-sama mati lah, wakakaka.

But whichever reason he has in mind, what do you expect from a man who would bite a policeman, wakakaka.

1 Malaysia Kena Kencing Dengan Ketua Menteri Melaka

- Bernama

PLOT TO KEEP MH370 HIDDEN FOREVER?: Wreckage in Bay of Bengal claims REJECTED without checks

PLOT TO KEEP MH370 HIDDEN FOREVER?: Wreckage in Bay of Bengal claims REJECTED without checks
A private company said it had found what it believes is wreckage of a plane in the Bay of Bengal that should be investigated as potential debris from missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, but the possibility was dismissed by search coordinators.
The Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) managing the multinational search for the missing plane said it continued to believe that the plane came down in the southern Indian Ocean off Australia.
The Bay of Bengal is located between India and Myanmar, thousands of miles from the current search area. The wreckage was reported by Australian geophysical survey company GeoResonance.
"The company is not declaring this is MH370, however it should be investigated," GeoResonance said in a statement.
The company said it had passed on the information to Malaysian Airlines and the Malaysian and Chinese embassies in Australia on March 31, and to the JACC on April 4.
"The company and its directors are surprised by the lack of response from the various authorities," GeoResonance said.
"This may be due to a lack of understanding of the company's technological capabilities, or the JACC is extremely busy, or the belief that the current search in the Southern Indian Ocean is the only plausible location of the wreckage."
GeoResonance says on its website that it offers a unique and proven method of geophysical survey that detects electromagnetic fields from various chemical elements. GeoResonance did not respond to requests for further comment.
Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, went missing in March en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
The Australian-led search team said it was relying on information from satellite and other data to determine the missing aircraft's location and the location in the GeoResonance report was not within that search arc.
"The joint international team is satisfied that the final resting place of the missing aircraft is in the southerly portion of the search arc," it said.
A massive search operation involving aircraft, ships and sophisticated underwater equipment capable of scouring the ocean floor has so far failed to turn up any trace of the plane.
Australia's Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Monday the chance of finding floating debris was now remote, and a new phase of the search would focus on the seabed.
Malaysia's transport ministry said in a statement late on Tuesday that it was assessing the credibility of the latest report.
"In line with Malaysia's consistent stand of verifying and corroborating any new lead since Day 1 of the search operations, we are aware of a report citing the detection of potential aircraft wreckage in the Bay of Bengal," said Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.
"Malaysia is working with its international partners to assess the credibility of this information." - Reuters

NAAM aims to give Indian youth a lift

The directors in NAAM have been given the task to transform Indian youth and make the programme a success.
NAAM Masyarakat IndiaPETALING JAYA: The newly minted New Affirmative Action Movement (NAAM), aimed at propelling Indian youth towards entrepreneurship, will have an impressive array of directors, including two prominent lawyers and two well known academicians.
The movement which comes under the Youth and Sports Ministry and spearheaded by deputy minister M Saravanan as its chairman, has six individuals as its board of trustees from different backgrounds.
This is set to be an advantage to NAAM, which has been given a RM37 million grant by the government.
NAAM’s board of trustees consist Dr Mohamed Haniffa, the executive chairman of Mahsa University, Dr Krishnan Maniam, from University Malaya’s Indian studies department, veteran politician Dr L Krishnan, chartered accountant Madhu Marimuthu and two well known legal eagles Saseedharan KPB Menon and Selva Mookiah.
“I believe we have a good mix of people as trustees. Their experience and expertise will be an added advantage to this movement. We want to tap into their wealth of expertise to make this venture a success,” Saravanan told FMT in an interview recently.
NAAM, which held its headquarters official opening two days ago, aims to produce a pool of 100,000 skilled and capable Indian youths with increased productivity and assimilation into the country’s mainstream economy.
The movement which has also been picked as the strategic partner for the cabinet committee on Indian Affairs, would screen and identify these youths and arm them with skills to be economically stable.
“I want to emphasise that NAAM will not be asking for money from those who want to join. We encourage them to go into agriculture for starters. If someone has a small plot of land, just say one to two acres, they can meet us, obtain our expertise and go into agriculture in a big way. We will also try to get them loans through Tekun for them to start their own agriculture business.
“The government is serious in wanting to boost Indian youth economically and this is a good programme to achieve the aim. The Prime Minister (Najib Tun Razak) and Youth and Sports Minister (Khairy Jamaluddin) have placed the trust on us to deliver. On the government’s part, they have set aside funds for the start-up. Now its up to the community to take it up,” said Saravanan.
NAAM has no political agenda
Najib, in NAAM’s corporate profile, said the movement had a clear role to play in the uplifting of Indian youth in the country.
“By understanding the challenges of our youth and subsequently, in channelling their energy and enthusiasm towards entrepreneurship and business, NAAM is effectively creating the right contest for young people to thrive and succeed.
“The government looks forward to forging precisely these kinds of partnerships as we build our capacity to realise the vast potential our youths have to offer,” said Najib.
Although NAAM seems to be ‘closely’ linked to the MIC, Saravanan argues that NAAM does not have any political agenda.
“Our only agenda is uplifting of Indian youth. Before the launch, we held discussions with the cross section of the Malaysian Indian community from business leaders to small entrepreneurs. We even held discussions with the Indian opposition elected representatives.
“Everyone said that this was a good idea. What we need now is to ensure the implementation goes according to plan. The first roll out of Indian entrepreneurs from NAAM should be by the end of the year…much has been said on the matter and now its time to walk the talk,” said Saravanan, who is also MIC vice-president.

Khalid not keen on serving another term as Selangor MB

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said he would complete his current term and was not keen to serve another term in charge of the state government even if the opposition were to continue to hold the reins.
"I do not intend to stay on for the third term. But I will complete my term. I just want to be remembered as a person who has served the people," he said in his Twitter post.
Khalid has been criticised over his leadership by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) top leaders and recently Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi of the DAP called for him to be sacked over the water crisis in Selangor.
National Water Services Commission (SPAN) today announced that the water rationing in Selangor would be lifted effective tomorrow.
Khalid was appointed menteri besar on March 13, 2008 following the opposition pact of Pakatan Rakyat winning in Selangor in the 12th general election (GE12). He was reappointed for the second term after GE13 last May. – Bernama

Pay Syabas more? No thanks, Khairy

COMMENT Khairy Jamaluddin is an interesting man. Oft times, we expect intelligence and maturity from him, probably because once in a while, he actually demonstrates it - his remonstration of Zulkifli Noordin’s insensitive comments on Karpal Singh being a case in point.

Just when you start to think that maybe this is a half-decent politician with vague aspirations to statesmanship however, the man demonstrates an equal capability for the very same lowbrow, misleading, and petty political mudslinging that disappointingly defines Malaysian politics.

I understand that as a representative of the government, it’s easy to feel defensive when the federal government is criticised; I also fully respect any individual’s rights to make their case and argue their position.

Khairy (left) is however one of those people from whom we expected better with regard to the relationship between rhetoric and facts. Hisarticle on the water situation in Selangor is so lopsided that I cannot state with certainty that it is not in fact merely a great trolling exercise. If so, consider me well trolled.

Although I am neither a minister nor an expert on the water industry, the following represents my humble attempt to point out the holes in his arguments.

Among others, I will concentrate on the allusion that Selangor’s water concessionaires do not have enough money, and why the comparisons with regards to water rationing made in the article are fallacious.

Syabas’ perverse mismanagement, corruption and wastage

At the core of his article, Khairy basically suggests that the Selangor government has starved the water concessionaires of sufficient funds, causing them to lack enough money to operate properly.

I concur unhesitatingly that the Selangor government has indeed starved the water concessionaires, putting an end to the excessive profiteering it enjoyed when Barisan Nasional ran Selangor.

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim is a man who is very careful about who he pays money to, even more so when that money belongs to the public. Unceasingly sacrosanct to him is value for money, getting a good deal, and never paying good money for bad service.

Let’s examine how Syabas, the biggest of the water concessionaires, spends its money.

The most glaring example that people rightfully remember is the incredulous salary paid to Syabas CEO Rozali Ismail - RM425,000 a month, before bonuses.

He makes in a month what most Malaysians do not make in a year (that is, any Malaysian earning less than RM35,416 a month), and he makes in a day (RM1,164) what many Malaysians do not make in a month.

I am not one to begrudge an individual who performs well a decent and deserved salary. If Syabas was financially healthy and providing good services at decent rates (neither of which is the case), then I’m sure some would find a high salary for its CEO to be justified.

Rozali is a former Umno Selangor treasurer, who spent hundreds of millions of Syabas funds to buy pipes from Indonesia (already a breach of contract, which states that all such equipment must be sourced locally) from a company that Rozali himself owns.

Renovation works on Syabas office buildings budgeted at RM23.2 million suddenly balloon up to RM51.2 million; causing some of us to ask whether this one of the 72 percent of Syabas contracts that are awarded via direct negotiation instead of open tender, worth RM600 million in total?

This is at least the third time I’m mentioning some of these points in an article. No one seems to dispute it.

Only BN pours money into black holes

Imagine if a contractor you engaged to renovate your house does not do the job according to specifications, wilfully does exactly what he promised not to do, is in the midst of turning your house into what looks like a nightmare, and then still has the gall to demand that he be paid more.

Only a lunatic would give in to such a contractor. Yet, that is exactly what Khairy is asking Selangor to do. His article suggests that the way to solve Selangor’s water problems is to pump more money into the companies that created them, and that raising the water tariffs excessively (up to 75 percent, cumulatively - a number he conveniently fails to mention) is completely justified.

It appears that even BN’s supposed best and brightest still conform to the twisted logic that has spread corruption so very deep into the lifeblood of Malaysian politics.

In fact, Khairy is proud to trumpet how much money the federal government has pumped into the water concessionaires (RM6.6 billion), as if that was the money that saved Selangor from a drought.

This is most fallacious. Khairy used the word ‘injected’, where the more accurate term is ‘bailed out’. When an Umno company runs itself to the ground via mismanagement and corruption, the knight in shining armour that comes riding in is of course the Umno-controlled federal government.

It is obvious from its track record that Syabas’ financial priorities are not fixing pipes. This cannot possibly be the case if they are still paying Rozali RM425,000 a month. Where do you think that RM6.6 billion is really going?

Shameful NRW levels

Khairy proudly proclaims that Syabas’ non-revenue water (NRW - in essence, wasted water) levels of 32 percent is below the national average of 36 percent, happily telling us the NRW levels of other states - Pahang (56 percent), Kelantan (55 percent), Sabah (50 percent) and Kedah (47 percent).

Has the man no shame? If I was part of a governing party that wasted half the water it produced, I would not know where to put my face. I guess for BN, wastage and leakage is par for the course.

Being proud that Syabas’ NRW is lower than the national average is like comparing ourselves to Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.

Actually, forget comparing ourselves to Bangladesh - Dhaka’s NRW levels are lower than Syabas’ (29 percent). Some further examples: Eastern Manila - 11 percent, Germany - 7 percent, Denmark - 6 percent, and Singapore - 5 percent.

Those are the standards and levels to which we should aspire, not the 56 percent of our prime minister’s home state.

Khairy states that the lack of water shortages in those states with high NRWs means that the water shortage in Selangor is not caused by NRW levels.

This logic is painfully fallacious. I assume that if the national average is 36 percent, and the states mentioned by Khairy have NRWs that are so high above the national average, then other states such as Johor and Perak (who have been experiencing water rationing), should have lower NRWs.

Going by this reasoning, weather is hardly a determinant of water shortages; rather, the lower a state’s NRW, the more likely it is to experience water rationing.

If this is how they determine causality at Oxford, I am glad I did not qualify for admission.

Keeping promises, making tough decisions

Khairy implies that Khalid’s adherence to his manifesto promise of free water is what is causing the water shortage.

I’m a little confused. BN likes to berate Khalid for not keeping his manifesto promises, and now Khairy is actively saying that the right thing to do is for Khalid to break his manifesto promises.

I do understand that breaking promises is again, par for the course where BN is concerned, but I rather believe that Selangoreans have demonstrated more than once that they’d like to keep such rubbish politics out of their state.

The whole reason Selangor provides free water is because it knows that it can afford it, as long as the water industry is properly run.

Khairy’s article in The Star was possibly targeted towards upper middle class Malaysians for whom a 100 percent or maybe even 1,000 percent increase in water bill would barely make a dent in monthly expenditures, and would certainly be worth paying in order to avoid the inconveniences currently faced.

Those however, aren’t the only Malaysians who need looking out for.

Khalid has made some hard decisions with regards to water rationing. True to nature, his approach to water rationing suggests that his priorities are to be conservative with regards to long-term water supply planning, instead of making decisions that are popular but detrimental to our future.

The deal Selangoreans deserve

Khairy calls the deal reached between the federal and state governments a sweet deal for Selangor. I most heartily concur.

Khalid is a master at getting a good deal, and the way things have been done, Selangoreans are getting excellent value for money, as they have for some years now.

I disagree however, with Khairy’s pathetic attempt to say that the federal government agreed to this deal out of desperate, sincere concern for the people of Selangor.

The truth is the federation needs Selangor as much as Selangor needs the federation. As the biggest revenue generating state in the federation, Selangor has always received disproportionately low allocations from the federal government, so it is way past its due.

More to the point, it is well past the time BN made amends for the manner in which it has allowed Selangor’s water concessionaires to pillage the water industry at the expense of the rakyat to fatten the pockets of already fat cats (I say again, RM425,000 a month).

The water concessionaires would still have made a tidy profit if they accepted the RM9.65 billion buyout offer. Their refusal to do so was not, as Khairy attempts to paint, a failure of the Selangor government, but a result of unbridled greed on behalf of BN linked corporate players.

Decades of corruption and cronyism have led some on both sides of the fence to feel entitled, a notion that Khalid quickly disabused them of - a stance so vigorous and unyielding that it may have been the cause of the Kajang move.

We can only hope that the darling of BN’s liberals will pick his battles and words with better care. A former colleague joked: Just because Khairy managed to rub shoulders with Barack Obama, he’s now setting his sights on higher ministries.

Patience, brother, patience.

'Speak up, Najib, for Obama struck the heart'

Silence is not an option, said DAP leader Gobind Singh Deo in urging Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to respond to US President Barack Obama's incisive views on Malaysia.

"These comments strike at the very heart of his (Najib's) administration. He must now respond," added the Puchong MP in a statement today.

Gobind was commenting on Obama's call for Malaysia to dismantle laws and policies which sideline religious and ethnic minorities.

Warning that it would impede Malaysia's success, the president had said prejudices against people from different religions and races have no place in the modern world and must be removed.

"He is absolutely right," Gobind said.

The opposition MP argued that the time had come to accept that preference along racial lines failed to assist in nation building.

"That would only lead to a society with deeply embedded feelings of oppression and this would ultimately lead to a breakdown in relations between its people.

"Malaysia must find ways by which it can move away from politics in which race dominates.

"We must work harder to build a 'Malaysian Malaysia' if we hope to see this country live up to basic principles of constitutional democracy," he added.

Pointing out that Najib once mooted the 1Malaysia concept, Gobind said this in itself was a recognition on the part of BN that the country had moved backwards in terms of nation building ever since independence.

"Nevertheless, the prime minister has failed in following through with the concept.

"His administration has in fact moved to further tighten its grip against dissent with the use of laws such as the Sedition Act against those who speak up against oppression, marginalisation and discrimination and this trend, I believe, is set to continue," he added.

As for Obama, Gobind said the US president made a "clear and sharp observation" about the situation in Malaysia during his brief official visit.

Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had immediately refuted the president's remarks, claiming that the government is fair to all races.

Obama's statements also drew condemnation from various Malay rights groups.

Non-Muslim students quizzed on Islamic issues

Non-Muslim students, who applied for Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) scholarships, have been quizzed on Islamic matters and this has raised the ire of Sarawak politicians.

During interviews, the students alleged that they were asked about hudud as well as their on knowledge regarding Muslim prayers.

Iban student Nigel Unchat Jeremiah, who scored straight As in his SPM examination, had raised the matter with Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president and state minister James Masing (left).

Nigel claimed that during the "open question and answer" session, he was asked questions on Islamic issues, including the names of Muslim prophets.

The student wanted to apply for a MARA scholarship to pursue a mechanical engineering programme at Kolej MARA Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.

There was also another Iban student who he claimed had been asked similar questions.

The interview, where candidates were divided in groups of 10, was conducted at Maktab Rendah Sains MARA in Semariang.

Attempt to disqualify non-Muslim students?

Criticising Mara officers, Masing said: "They should be more careful in framing their questions, and must not raise irrelevant issues and questions.”

Questioning the motive of asking such questions, the senior minister believed that it was to disqualify non-Muslim candidates.

"The questions were irrelevant to begin with as if the officers were religious bigots. Just because Malaysia is a Muslim country, it does not mean the whole nation knows about Islamic teachings.

"They should not have asked Islamic-based questions. It is plain wrong. What relevance do these questions have to applying for a higher learning scholarship?

"I don't want this incident to happen again especially in Sarawak where there are many natives and Muslims are in the minority," he added.

How long has this been happening?

Also furious about the incident, Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian (right) said if the allegations were true, it amounted to blatant discrimination.

"This is another proof of those in authority trying to subtly Islamise the non-Muslim students and suppress the minorities in Malaysia,” he added.

Demanding for an investigation, the Ba'Kelalan assemblyperson said: "This fund is a public fund and it would be a clear abuse of power by these officers. I wonder how long this has been going on.”

Meanwhile, DAP Serian branch chairperson Edward Luak accused MARA officers of purposely trying to disqualify non-Muslim native students from getting scholarships.

"They cannot ask questions related to Islamic matters to students who are Christians.

"Of course they cannot answer those questions. This is most unfair," the retired district officer said.

Hisham zips lip on why RM100mil spent on rail link

Putrajaya had spent RM100 million to link KLIA and KLIA2 by rail and will charge users RM2 one way, because it is a form of public transport, said acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the Express Rail Link (ERL) station at KLIA2, Hishammuddin refused to respond to queries by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on why taxpayers ended up footing the hefty bill for the link.

"Because it is public transport... I'm not going to argue with you," Hishammuddin said curtly.

The PAC is looking into Malaysian Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), a government-linked company, and its handling of the long-delayed KLIA2 project and the inflation of construction cost from RM2 billion to RM4 billion.

PAC chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamed said that the rail extension should be part of the KLIA2 construction cost and that the PAC wanted to know the government's rationale.

Hishammuddin said no more but clarified that the extension was 2.2 km and not 1km as reported to the PAC.

KLIA Express is an Express Rail Link (ERL) system which connects KL Sentral and Putrajaya with Malaysia’s international airports in the south-west of Kuala Lumpur.

While passengers pay RM35 to go one-way from KL Sentral to KLIA and KLIA2 on the 33 to 38 minute journey, they have to pay RM2 for rides between the two airports. The rail link was completed in October 2013.

With KLIA2, ERL traffic set to rise 40pct

Hishammuddin said the RM2 charge was fair as it went to the ERL’s maintenance costs, even though traffic is expected to rise as much as 40 percent with KLIA2's opening.

“This is so that the facility can be properly maintained and passed on to the future generations,” he added.

KLIA2, which began construction in 2009, is finally operationally ready and safe to open, Hishammuddin said after a round of inspection today with Urban Well-Being, Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan and Works Minister Fadillah Yusoff in tow.

The trio, together with an entourage of over 100 photographers, videographers and reporters and government officials, boarded the ERL from Putrajaya to KLIA2, standing awhile before walking down the aisle to greet surprised passengers.

After announcing that 80,000 people have visited KLIA2 on Sunday when it held an open day, Hishammuddin said that all speculation should now be over. He simply wanted to close the chapter on the so-called low-cost airport’s troubled past, he added.

“The past is the past, my task now is to get people to work together for the future. I will deal with all other issues after that,” he said.

There were reports of broken runways, bad design, incomplete signboards and a total change of concept to become a “hybrid” terminal and the airport’s main user AirAsia had also previously dragged its feet on moving in.

Hishammuddin said that MAHB has now done everything possible to ensure that the airport is safe, including getting independent assessments and approvals from International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and Certificate of Completion and Compliance.

Rupanya Dalang Sebenar Catuan Air Di Selangor Terbongkar

~tmi
