MIC Youth hand over memo to IGP over Deepa’s case

MIC Youth urges IGP to act swiftly in child custody case .
tamil nesanKUALA LUMPUR: MIC Youth today submitted a memorandum to Bukit Aman urging the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to act on the abduction case of S Deepa’s son.
It’s national youth information chief P Punithan said the police must  take action on Izwan Irvan Abdullah, Deepa’s ex-husband for contempt of court.
“Izwan is clearly in contempt of the High Court order and the police have no excuse to avoid probing Deepa’s case.
“In fact MIC Youth had lodged a police report last Friday thus the police should investigate based on our report, but it has yet to be done,” said Punithan, adding that the police should see the matter as a legislative issue.
He also hopes the IGP will do the necessary in assisting Deepa to get back her son.
Six MIC national council members were present at Bukit Aman to submit the memorandum that was received by DSP Venugopal at 12.45 pm. Venugopal is expected to pass the memorandum to the IGP for further action.
Deepa was given custody of her two children by the High Court in Seremban on April 7.
A syariah court had earlier given custody of the children to Izwan, a lorry driver who embraced Islam last year and now works as a volunteer for Yayasan Kasih Sayang.
In responds to the case, Culture and Tourism Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz last Saturday described it as clear cut kidnapping and affirmed that the High Court ruling was correct. He also said the police should not allow Izwan to get away with it.
Civil society groups too have pressured the IGP to take action against Izwan.
