AG must act and charge teacher

A show cause letter and transfer is not enough. Further action should be taken against teacher who assaulted student with shoe, says Gobind Singh

Petaling Jaya: “The teacher who allegedly assaulted a student with a shoe in class should be charged in court if the allegations are found to be true,” said Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo today.

The girl’s father, it is reported, has lodged a police report against the teacher, who is alleged to have thrown the shoe at eight-year old M Sharmini, during moral class.

“The law is clear. That would amount to intentional assault causing hurt, which amounts to an offence under the Penal Code.”

“The teacher has since been transferred and issued with a show cause letter but this to my mind, is not enough,” he added via sms.

“What happened is a very serious matter. People send their children to school believing they will be safe and that the teachers in particular will protect them.”

“Further, the act of assaulting a student using a shoe is in itself aggravating. It is considered highly derogatory and cannot be condoned.”

“We cannot and must not let incidents like these go unpunished.”

“I call upon the Attorney General to personally ensure that action is taken in this matter if investigations disclose an offence, as soon as possible.”
