Panic reigned on an AirAsia flight when it skidded on the runway while landing at the Brunei International Airport at approximately 4pm today.
Confirming the incident, AirAsia stressed that all 102 passengers and seven crew aboard AK278 were not hurt.
According to a passenger, chaos broke out due to a flight attendant who urged passengers to run out of the cabin.
"The steward made the whole situation worse. He shouted 'run, run, run!'
"That was when we all fell and stepped on each other before we slid down from the plane and ran to the field," he told Malaysiakinion condition of anonymity.
He added that the passengers started panicking again when the door of the bus transporting them from the runway could not open.
"The worse part was that something was burning and everyone screamed like hell once again.
"We managed to get out of the bus but we were all wet from the rain," he said.
In a statement, AirAsia said that its ground services personnel are now attending to all passengers.
"Our team is working with the relevant authorities to identify the root cause of this incident, and AirAsia will provide further updates when necessary," it said.
Meanwhile, Brunei Times reported that the aircraft skidded upon landing due to heavy rain.
All flights departing the airport have been delayed while incoming traffic has been diverted, its portal said.
