Ambiga: Don't blame the passengers, captain

In a series of Twitter postings, former Malaysian Bar president Ambiga Sreenevasan has criticised Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin over the latter's racial strife remark.

"It's like the captain of a ship blaming passengers for the ship going off course. We must not fall for this nonsense. They owe us an explanation!

"We should be asking the DPM why they have brought the nation to this point. Don't be distracted by attempts to deflect responsibility to others," she tweeted.

The former Bersih chairperson also said that leaders should stop pinning the blame on others when they had allowed the nation to deteriorate to this point.

In her earlier postings, Ambiga was also "amazed" how many, "except the DPM himself", attempted to put a positive spin on the deputy prime minister's remarks.

"We can all read you know," she said.

On a sarcastic note, Ambiga also criticised MIC and its president G Palanivel over their silence on this issue.

"Pretty soon we will forget who the president of MIC is! Have they taken a vow of silence?" she said.

While DAP and the opposition criticised Muhyiddin for issuing a "threat", BN parties, however, defended Muhyiddin, claiming that it was only a "reminder".

The deputy prime minister courted controversy when he did not rule out the possibility of another racial bloodletting similar to the May 13, 1969 incident.
