DAP builds road, shames BN in Sarawak

DAP claims to have implemented and completed many projects throughout rural Sarawak under its Impian Sarawak Project Initiative.
sarawak_road_300KUCHING:Barisan Nasional (BN) Sarawak had mud on their faces today after the DAP claimed that it had managed to construct a 120 meter concrete road for Rumah Jelapang in Siga, Sri Aman for RM7,000 only.
It cost a tenth of the price the state government had estimated for the project before ruling it out as too costly to justify building it.
The construction came under the party’s Impian Sarawak Project Initiative. The source of the funding was not disclosed.
“After many years the dream of having a proper access road has been finally realised,” Tuai Rumah Jelapang was quoted as saying in a statement issued by DAP Sarawak.
“Previously, there were many visits by BN councillors and their representatives who came with their measuring tapes to calculate the cost of building the road but nothing was done.”
DAP in citing the just completed road, with locals chipping in, said this is an example of how state government projects are bogged down by leakages and wastage of taxpayers’ funds.
“We can build ten roads like that for Rumah Jelapang with the BN’s RM70,000 budget,” said DAP Sarawak vice-chairman Leon Jimat Donald.
DAP claims to have implemented and completed many projects throughout rural Sarawak under its Impian Sarawak Project Initiative.
The Initiative, launched in October last year, was ‘to ensure that BN will not take the votes of rural Sarawakians for granted, according to DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
“The BN should play its role as the government of the day to improve the simple and basic infrastructure desperately lacking in these areas.”
