Don't spend excessively for Raya, Rosmah advises

The prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor has advised single mothers not to spend excessively during the Hari Raya celebrations, suggesting they limit their festive purchases to only two sets of new clothes and three tins of cookies.

She shared her tips at an event organised by Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) today, which saw some 200 single mothers receiving RM400 cash and food hampers each.

"I hope you all will appreciate this contribution to buy Raya goods, such as clothes, shoes and cookies, moderately.

"I want to remind all mothers and children here, buy Raya clothes but don't spend all the money given by MRCB," said Rosmah.

She further reminded that the money could be helpful for children's schooling and medical expenses.

"So, mothers please don't be too extravagant, (if you) buy clothes, one or two sets are enough, with one set worth RM60 and two sets cost RM120 only," she said.

In 2011, Rosmah came under fire after it was reported that she had allegedly ordered a RM24 million diamond ring from New York, but she has subsequently refuted the claims.
