MCA sees red over Bung's green bra

MCA Youth has called on BN lawmaker Bung Moktar Radin to remove his tweet of an image of a green bra next to the capital letters "ZIL" to a female journalist.

Its chief Senator Chong Sin Woon said apart from adding to the humiliation and devastation of Brazil in the World Cup semifinal match to Germany, it also disparages women.

"That tweet leaves the impression that the only image permanently imprinted in the mind of Bung is the female anatomy since as early as 2006, he had already spewed 'bocor' remarks against a female MP thereby belittling the menstrual cycle of all women," he added.

Bung had tweeted the image together with a response to a query from the Channel News Asia journalist regarding the backlash to his Adolf Hitler tweet in praising Germany for its 7-1 victory over Brazil.

After Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak admonished the Umno Kinabatangan MP, Bung tweeted an apology, which read: "When Germany whacked Brazil, I unintentionally said something that hurt the feeling of the people in Germany. My sincerest apology. Long live Bung."

Commenting on his apology, Chong said Bung should clarify the enjoinder "long live Bung" as the people can be forgiven for assuming that the MP was being sarcastic.

"His insults against women and earlier iconizing a persona associated with evil reflects misogyny whilst disdaining the sufferings, displacements and deaths of millions and millions of World War Two victims," he noted.

Emulate the German team

Chong also pointed out that a mark of a true gentleman, what more a federal legislator is one who knows when to back down and withdraw gaffe comments.

"More so, when there is public outrage and when glorification of a personality that represents everything evil is picked up by well-known international media, thereby landing Malaysia in the world headlines for all the wrong reasons all over again," he added.

He also reminded Bung that voters expect elected representatives to speak up or at least be knowledgeable on daily issues, be it at a local stage, national level and even on global affairs.

Giving Bung a history lesson, the MCA Youth chief said there are lessons to be learnt from the evils of Hitler's contorted perception of Aryan purity, superiority and domination versus mass genocide of disabled people and ethnicities deemed inferior.

The lessons, he added, is that countries, political parties, policy makers must push to realise peace despite religious or racial differences, stymie racial discrimination and bigotry to advance.

"Post WWII Germany represents such values. To 'Hail Hitler' in Germany in any form earns the speaker or author a prison sentence.

"I urge Bung to observe the magnanimity and maturity from the German team who embraced and comforted their Brazilian opponents after the final whistle.

"And even Brazilian spectators who congratulated their German counterparts and wished them the best," he added.
