Attempted murder at temple: CRIME DOWN?
IPOH - A dinner at a temple almost turned into a fatal outing for a 49-year-old man when he was shot by a gunman at Kutien Hall in Ayer Tawar yesterday.
Perak police chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the assailant walked into the hall and fired two shots at the victim, who was then rushed to the Seri Manjung Hospital for treatment. The victim suffered injuries to his right arm.
Police have yet to determine the motive for the attack.
The case has been classified as attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
In another case, a villager died a day after he was hit by a stray pellet from a shotgun fired by a friend.
The two were firing shots to chase away wild boars which had been destroying crops at an oil palm estate in Pasir Garam, Kampung Gajah in the Perak Tengah district in the 1.30pm incident yesterday.
Mohd Sarjidi Ibin, in his 50s, from Kampung Masjid Pulau Tiga Kiri in Kampung Gajah, succumbed to a head wound at the Raja Permaisuri Hospital here at midnight today.
Perak Tengah district police chief Supt Mohamad Fakri Che Sulaiman said the deceased's friend, aged 55, is said to have shot at a wild boar.
He then saw Mohd Sarjidi bleeding from the head and collapse.
The friend rushed the victim to the Changkat Melintang Hospital, where he was later transferred to Ipoh when his condition worsened.
Mohamad Fakri said police have seized the friend's shotgun to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 for murder. -Sundaily
