IS THIS ATTITUDE RIGHT, MUST THE PEOPLE'S REP BOW & SCRAPE FOR A MEETING, PKR trying to gain audience with Sultan for Azizah - report
KUALA LUMPUR - PKR will make a fresh request for an audience with the Selangor Sultan to resolve the tussle over the state’s mentri besar post, according to a news report.
Citing an unnamed source, the Astro Awani news portal reported that PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will personally sign the written request to give it a more “formal” touch.
“Today, PKR will write a letter again to the palace. Same letter, but this time Wan Azizah will sign,” the PKR source was quoted telling Astro Awani yesterday.
Just two days ago, the Selangor Sultan turned down a request penned by PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the ruler to grant an audience to his wife, Dr Wan Azizah, to explain the party’s sacking of current Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
On Tuesday, the Sultan’s private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani said the letter was presented to the state ruler on Monday, but was rejected because the Sultan had already met with Khalid to discuss his sacking from PKR and his position as the mentri besar.
The Selangor Sultan has also categorised Khalid’s sacking by PKR as an internal party matter that does not affect his position as the mentri besar, the state palace said.
On Monday, Malay Mail Online reported a PKR source saying that the palace was likely offended that Anwar had written in on his wife’s behalf to seek audience with the Sultan.
PKR expelled the embattled MB last week ostensibly for his open defiance of the party’s decision that he must make way for Dr Wan Azizah.
Khalid’s sacking leaves Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in a precarious state and adds to worries that snap polls may have to be called to ward off a stalemate.
Despite the sacking from PKR, Khalid has stayed on in his post as Mentri Besar with the blessings of the Sultan.
Khalid has also one-upped his former Pakatan Rakyat allies by sacking five of six DAP and PKR lawmakers from the state executive council on Tuesday, executing this decision with the Sultan’s blessings. -Malay Mail
