Khalid reminds PKR of 'justice for all' clarion call

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has hit back at PKR, warning the party not to victimise him as its disciplinary board's recent demands "are unreasonable and suspicious".

In a reply to the disciplinary board's show-cause letter, Khalid reminded the board's chairperson Tan Kee Kwong to conduct himself according to the party's clarion call, "Justice for all" (Keadilan Untuk Semua).

"As a party fighting for justice for all, I should also be given a real chance, not just a mirage, to answer to the allegations of my wrongdoing.

"Unfortunately, the actions of YB Datuk (Tan) and the disciplinary board up until now are highly suspect," Khalid wrote in the letter to the board dated today.

Khalid’s three-page reply letter to PKR, which was uploaded on his official Facebook, also confirmed that he asked for Tan to postpone a disciplinary hearing to Aug 15, at 3 pm. He told reporters the same earlier today.

In his letter, Khalid also compared the party's action against him to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s Sodomy II case in the Appellate courts.

“I also feel very worried about how this disciplinary action against me has been rushed. Just like (Anwar’s case), we cannot let the public have the same perception about this matter,” he said.

Second letter in response to show-cause letter

This is Khalid’s second letter in response to Tan’s show-cause letter issued on Aug 5 (Tuesday), which sternly gave him three days’ grace period to reply or face immediate action.

Khalid said he regrets that his first reply, which called the show-cause letter “faulty” has not been accepted.

The letter had asked Khalid why he had issued press statement a day later insisting that he stays on as menteri besar, apparently countering the PKR central leadership committee’s decision on July 21 that he should be replaced by party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The disciplinary board noted that the move to replace him had been mooted as early as Jan 15 under the so-called ‘Kajang Move’.

In response to this issue, Khalid’s latest letter said that he could not defend himself properly if the board does not specify which parts of the PKR constitution he has been broken.

“Without such details, I cannot defend myself effectively,” Khalid said, pointing out that the mistake was for the board to rectify first.

As for the Tan’s follow-up letter yesterday, calling Khalid to come to PKR HQ and answer to the board for his alleged wrongdoings, Khalid said this was “unreasonable and unfair”.

Khalid argued that he was only given a 24-hour notice to come inand the board also added on five additional charges unrelated to the Kajang Move, mentioned in the first letter.

“Let me emphasis here that the five issues mentioned are matters that have been discussed by the Selangor state executive committee which oversees the state’s administration.

“YB Datuk (Tan) and the disciplinary board only has jurisdiction over party issues and not anything regarding running of the state government ,” he stressed.

Khalid adds that this “inconsistency” in the board’s demands has cast doubt on its actions.

Khalid ended the letter stating the conditions under which he would agree to come in to meet the board on Aug 15.

They must tell him who would be present at the enquiry and the procedures to be followed. He added that he also would like to have his own lawyers and officials present.
