PAS sticks to Sunday meet for decision on Selangor MB

PAS will wait until its central committee meeting on August 17 before making any decision on the status of Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, said the party's secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali.
Mustafa (pic) said the Shura Council's decision last week to support the embattled Selangor MB was made prior to Khalid's sacking from PKR.
"We have to wait for the meeting on August 17 first, then only we will make our stand," Mustafa told The Malaysian Insider. His DAP counterpart Lim Guan Eng today urged PAS to state clearly whether it would endorse Pakatan Rakyat's move to appoint Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the next MB.
Lim said the Islamist party must make its position known earlier, as Umno had already declared unconditional support for Khalid.
"PAS can no longer wait until August 17 following the statement by Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who had said that the party’s 12 assemblymen will give full and unconditional support to Khalid to continue as menteri besar," the Penang chief minister said in a statement.
Mustafa said PAS had directed its four excos to continue working with Khalid until a new decision is taken.
"I have issued a statement and Khalid knows all PAS excos will support him for now in order to defend the current state government.
"This is because Selangor needs at least four excos to form a government," he said.
On talks that no state exco will meet Khalid today despite the MB's request, Mustafa said:
"I think Khalid already know he has the support of all PAS exco so it is still all right if they don't meet him today."
Yesterday, Khalid said he would meet his 10 excos today to find out if they were still willing to work under him.
"If they feel, if it's in their own conscience, that they will not be a part of the menteri besar's team, then I think it's best for them not to continue," he had said.
Article 53 (2)(b) of the Selangor laws state that the sultan, on the advice of the MB, shall appoint between 4 and 10 members from the legislative assembly.
Following a two-hour meeting by Selangor's Royal Advisory Council at the Istana Alam Shah yesterday, the sultan consented to Khalid to continue as MB.
The Port Klang assemblyman said he had informed the sultan that he still commanded the majority of the support of the assemblymen, despite his sacking from PKR on August 9.
PKR expelled Khalid for defying the party’s orders to step down as MB and make way for Dr Wan Azizah to replace him.
His expulsion came weeks after the MB crisis threatened to split Pakatan between PAS, which supports Khalid, and PKR and DAP, which want him removed.
