Lim Kit Siang has called on Pakatan Rakyat Selangor assemblymen to state whether or not they supported Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, following Barisan Nasional’s declaration of support for the embattled menteri besar.
The DAP parliamentary leader said that it was "urgent and imperative" that the 43 assemblymen, including 15 reps from PAS, who have yet to decide on the issue.
"With the declaration by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that the 12 Barisan Nasional Selangor representatives will give their unconditional support to Khalid to continue as the Selangor MB, it is urgent and imperative for all 43 PR Selangor assemblymen from PKR, DAP and PAS to state their stand on the issue," he said in a statement today.
"All processes of political decision-making have no choice but to be accelerated if PR is not to be seen as incapable of responding to fast and high-speed political changes," Lim said.
Muhyiddin said BN will give its unconditional support to Khalid to continue as the Selangor MB and ensure the successful implementation of the water agreements Putrajaya had inked with the state government.
The deputy prime minister said he had discussed the matter with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is overseas, and BN would back Khalid if Pakatan Rakyat moved a motion of no-confidence against him in the Selangor assembly.
"I have followed the developments in Selangor and have informed the prime minister. I want to state that BN will support Khalid to continue as Selangor MB. We want to see continuity and want the welfare of the Selangor people taken care,” he said in Putrajaya today.
DAP and PAS have 15 seats each in the state assembly while PKR has 13 and Umno 12.
Khalid said today that the sultan of Selangor has consented to him continuing as MB as he still commanded support of the majority of assemblymen.
However, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and DAP Selangor chief Tony Pua said both parties had declared that Khalid no longer had their support to continue as MB and urged Khalid should call an emergency sitting of the state assembly to have a vote of confidence to prove that he indeed had the support of PAS and Umno assemblymen.
PKR announced on Saturday that it had expelled Khalid for defying the party’s orders to step down as menteri besar and make way for Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to replace him.‎
His expulsion came weeks after the MB crisis threatened to split Pakatan between PAS, which supports Khalid, and PKR and DAP, which want him removed.
