REVENGEFUL Khalid holds Selangor to ransom

REVENGEFUL Khalid holds Selangor to ransom
After getting the blessing from Selangor Sultan to become the unprecedented "partyless" MB, Khalid Ibrahim was not contented with just that. He decisively axed six of his executive councillors from PKR and DAP in a move that took the entire country by storm.
The political tempest has gone to an extent that democracy and public opinions are no longer of any relevance.
Democracy is by right a good thing. Unfortunately the political situation in Selangor has developed into one that any dirty trick will be fully exploited without a second thought in order to accomplish the motive. Those involved are cracking their heads to conceive plans that will exterminate the rivals, never for the well-being of the people of Selangor.
That is a ripped off political form where compromise and consultation are non-existent, and where fightings and duels prevail and trust wane. No rationality or passion, only individual or party interests.
It is the biggest ridicule and the worst eventuality that will ever happen to democracy, crudely protruding the hypocritical face of politics and the true faces of politicians. Other than feeling dejected and crestfallen over it, there is little we can do to help.
In a blatant act of retaliation to the sacking by PKR, Khalid went on to axe the six exco members not on his side, plunging the state of Selangor deeper into political chaos. All political parties and elected reps, whether they like it or not, will have to be dragged with it into the collective battle that is poised to smother democracy. No one would ever remember what they have pledged to the voters during the elections.
In last year's general elections, Pakatan clinched 44 out of the 56 state assembly seats up for grabs in Selangor, thumping the BN which had vowed to recapture the state. Pakatan was so powerful back then that no one would have imagined that barely a year from then, the coalition would be thrown into a massive political cyclone because of the MB crisis, putting itself in danger of an imminent break-up.
Lim Kit Siang said, the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat will cause consternation and even despair among Malaysians over the betrayal of their high hopes that change has finally come to Malaysia after more than half a century of political stagnation and even regression. The problem is, if the Pakatan break-up were to become a reality, who should bear the biggest responsibility? Should it be Anwar Ibrahim or Khalid Ibrahim? Or the PAS leaders who have betrayed their allies in Pakatan?
Anwar has said he would spare no effort to quickly resolve the issue of Selangor's MB crisis, even to an extent that a flash election is called. But the thing is, the power is now in Khalid's hand. If he insists not to convene a state assembly meeting soon, there is no way for Anwar's plan to work.
Other than the critical central committee meeting of PAS next Sunday, the inclination of 43 state assemblymen from PKR, DAP and PAS will anytime tip the balance. In other words, there are full of variables in the state's political situation, and every single element of change that comes next will potentially aggravate the intensity of this crisis.
Whoever that has the last laugh, there is no question that democracy will have been bruised beyond recognition thanks to this fiasco. -Mysinchew
