TELL UMNO TO STOP POKING FIRE! Don't delay Langat 2 project - Putrajaya warns S'gor
PADANG TERAP - The Federal Government hope that any possible changes to the Selangor leadership due to the current PKR internal crisis would not jeopardised the water deal signed between the state and the federal governments last August.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said any changes to existing Head of Agreement would cause a delay to the construction of the RM1 billion Langat 2 water treatment plant in Selangor.
Mahdzir said any review or changes to the deal could delay the project, which scheduled for completion by 2017 and this would resulting in an imminent water supply disruption to millions of consumers in the Klang Valley.
"As such, it is imperative that whatever the ending of the current political crisis in Selangor may be, the state government will honour the existing agreement so that the project will remain on the right track.
"Otherwise, it could pose a harm to the Langat 2 project which is already derailed for several years before the deal was finally inked in August," he told reporters when attending Aidilfitri gathering organised by Kuala Nerang assemblyman Badrul Hisham Hashim here today.
Mahdzir said the ministry also hoped that the Selangor leadership crisis would not result into any delay in the state's water industry restructuring process, which was also part of the Head of Agreement inked between the two parties.

In August, Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had represented the Selangor government to ink the deal with Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry between Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.
The restructuring of the state water industry involved the transfer of the management of the state water concessionaires to the state government, and also the construction of the Langat 2 project, involving an underground tunnel to channel water from Pahang to Sungai Langat.
The water would later be transferred to Sungai Selangor and Sungai Semenyih, which would also end the shortage of water in both rivers that may pave way for an uninterrupted water supply in the state. -NST
