IS PALACE GETTING TOO INVOLVED IN POLITICS? Selangor MB decision after PAS muktamar - report

IS PALACE GETTING TOO INVOLVED IN POLITICS? S'gor MB decision after PAS muktamar - report
The Sultan of Selangor will wait for the outcome of the PAS annual congress, which ends on September 20, before deciding who to appoint as the state’s new menteri besar, a PAS source said.
"Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah will see what happens during the muktamar before deciding which assemblyman in Selangor enjoys the support of the legislative body.
"I have been informed that the Sultan will only make a final decision on the Selangor menteri besar after the muktamar," a senior PAS leader said.
The Sultan, the source said, wants to be sure if PAS remained in Pakatan Rakyat after the muktamar.
The full PAS muktamar will be held from September 18 to 20 in Batu Pahat, Johor, while the various divisions will begin their conference on September 16 and 17.
A PAS central committee member, Nasrudin Hassan At Tantawi said there were factions within the party who wanted to oust president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
"Although it has been denied, (Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia) PasMa is aiming to use the 60th PAS muktamar to oust Hadi," Nasrudin said.
Nasrudin, the Temerloh MP, had posted on his Facebook that the PasMa meeting in Kota Baru on August 31 had indicated plans to oust Hadi.
Hadi plays a prominent role in the Selangor crisis as he is said to be in favour of retaining Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as the state menteri besar.
This is despite allies PKR and DAP having obtained the majority support for Datuk Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, with 30 out of 56 legislators backing her for the menteri besar post.
Hadi is opposed to Dr Wan Azizah as the new menteri besar.
A PAS central committee meeting after Hari Raya had at first nominated both Dr Wan Azizah and her deputy, Azmin Ali.
But Hadi unilaterally sent a letter to the Selangor palace on September 3, in which he made a U-turn by naming two PKR assemblymen and one PAS assemblyman as nominees.
Hadi had sent the names after the Sultan requested for additional names besides Azmin and Dr Wan Azizah.
The Sultan had expressed displeasure with PKR and DAP for failing to adhere to his request for more than two names.
DAP subsequently apologised to the Sultan and said it would discuss with PKR before deciding on its next move.
Yesterday, Wan Azizah kept mum when asked about PKR's plans to comply with the Sultan's wishes. -TMI
