Firemen helping the trapped driver out of his car.
KUCHING: A pregnant school teacher suffered the agony of losing her unborn child after the car she was travelling in was involved in a road accident near Kampung Abok in Sri Aman on Friday afternoon.
The 29-year-old, who teaches in Saratok, was heading back to her village in Balai Ringin together with another female teacher when the incident happened around 3pm.
According to her sibling, the expectant mother was seated in the front passenger seat when the driver lost control of the car and veered into the opposite lane, where it was then struck by a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle.
The two teachers, along with a family-of-six in the 4WD vehicle, all suffered minor-to-light injuries and were taken to Sri Aman Hospital for a checkup.
It was there that a scan revealed that the teacher, who was due to deliver what would have been her second child, a girl, on September 24, had suffered a miscarriage.
She was subsequently referred to the Sarawak General Hospital here around midnight yesterday to undergo an operation to have her deceased unborn child removed.
In an unrelated incident, a middle-aged man had to be extricated from his car after crashing into a tree at Jalan Datuk Amar Stephen Yong here early yesterday morning.
The 50-something man was travelling alone back to his house around 1.30am when he lost control of his Perodua Viva and slammed into a large tree by the roadside.
Passing motorists helped to call the Fire Department for help and the victim was subsequently removed from his car and sent to the Sarawak General Hospital where he received outpatient treatment.-borneopost
