SEE HOW MALICIOUS THE IGP-ZAHID ATTACK ON PPS! Court already ruled Unit Amal need not be registered - PAS

KUALA LUMPUR ― Putrajaya had tried unsuccessfully to prosecute PAS’s Unit Amal three years ago for not being registered with the Registrar of Societies, the Islamist party said today.
PAS Youth legal and human rights director Noorazmir Zakaria said the judiciary had then ruled that there was insufficient evidence to support the charge, amid a warning by the Home Ministry that the volunteer unit may again be targeted over the same issue.
“This case is not new and it’s already been decided by the court,” Noorazmir told a press conference here today at the PAS headquarters.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said yesterday that he was certain the police will crack down on the PAS charity unit as he considers the group’s status the same as the Penang volunteer patrol unit (PPS), which the police have declared illegal.
Police detained 155 members of the PPS on Sunday after the Merdeka Day parade in Penang, on grounds that the organisation is not registered with the RoS.
PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub, who was present at today’s press conference, pointed out that Unit Amal, which is registered under the Islamist party’s Youth wing, has been submitting annual reports to its parent since its inception in 1991, which PAS Youth then forwards to the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
He also said that PAS would not hesitate to sue the government if any of its 6,000 Unit Amal members are arrested.
“We feel that we did not commit any crime,” said Salahuddin.
Salahuddin expressed hopes, however, for a discussion with Zahid to resolve the issue.
“Engagement is important, instead of ordering the police to arrest them. This does not reflect the big-heartedness of a minister,” he said.
The police crackdown on the PPS is still ongoing, with authorities saying they may go after the remaining 9,000 volunteers.
Legal experts have also questioned the arrests, pointing out that the PPS has not been gazetted as an illegal organisation. -Malay Mail
