Singapore will match Malaysia’s toll hike

Singapore says this is a long-standing policy and reflects the "shared nature" of the crossings.
aPETALING JAYA: Singapore’s Senior Minister for Transport, Josephine Teo explained in Parliament today that Singapore would be matching Malaysia’s causeway toll hike “in due course”.
According to the portal “The Real Singapore”, Teo reiterated that this was a long-standing policy of Singapore’s and reflected the “shared nature” of the crossings.
Teo said changes to toll charges effected those on both sides of the causeway, so it was fair to keep them consistent.
She also said that if Malaysia got rid of or reduced the toll, Singapore would follow suit.
With the objective of “keeping things consistent”, the Singapore government’s plan to raise toll rates will have a negative financial impact on Singaporeans who need to use the causeway on a regular basis.
It is clear that with the war on toll charges raging between the Singapore and Malaysia governments, it is ultimately the citizens that are paying the price for it.
