Unit Amal vs the hate mongers

MP praises PAS charity corps for its track record of service to the community.
unitamalpas300PETALING JAYA: A member of parliament today paid tribute to PAS’s Unit Amal, contrasting its “positive track record” against the hate mongering of extremist right wing groups.
“Ask anyone, Muslim or non-Muslim, and he will testify to Unit Amal’s positive contributions at rallies or disaster sites,” said Kuala Terengganu MP Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad. “Even the police have acknowledged this.”
He noted with disappointment that Home Minister Zahid Hamidi had warned of a police crackdown on Unit Amal following Sunday’s mass arrest of Penang Voluntary Patrol Squad (PPS) members.
“Sadly, while the government does little about extreme racist and thug groups which target minorities, places of worship and prominent public buildings, PPS and Unit Amal PAS are now being targeted,” he said.
“Anarchists and right wing groups are allowed to operate openly, but well-meaning peaceful groups are going to be apprehended.”
He said Zahid sounded as if he was giving the police the green light to arrest Unit Amal members.
“Unit Amal has long existed and has a proven positive track record of service to the community in gatherings or rallies or in times of disaster, like the bad floods that hit Kemaman and Kuantan at the end of last year.
“During the floods, even before help from the army and authorities arrived, Unit Amal was in the thick of action without fanfare or publicity.
“It helped everyone, including Barisan Nasional supporters, Muslims and non-Muslims, young and old, the whole lot.
“Ask anyone in the flood hit areas and they will testify to this.”
