Education Ministry says students are assessed by their academic marks and co-curriculum achievements.
pendidikan_1PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry said the selection of students for universities is based on the principle of meritocracy .
The ministry in response to a question in Parliament said the students will be assessed by taking into account 90% of their academic marks, and 10% of their co-curriculum achievements.
Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham directed an inquiry to the Minister of Education in regards to students’ complaints. In Ngeh’s inquiry, he pointed out that every year, there are complaints from students saying that they were rejected for their programme of choice, while doing better at the examination than those who were accepted into the programme.
The ministry said consideration of both academic and co-curriculum achievement is to ensure that only holistic graduates are trained by the respective higher institutions. The ministry said all applicants who fit the criteria, will be eligible for consideration into higher institutions
