The former driver of actress Zahida Mohamed Rafiq, was today charged at the Ampang Sessions Court with criminal breach of trust, after the police tried to disrupt him in giving his testimony two days ago at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Noor Azman Azemi, 40, who is now a taxi driver, claimed trial to a charge of CBT of RM200,000 of Zahida's money which is entrusted on him to deposit in her personal account.
The incident happened at the actress’ home in Lorong Kempas 2, Kampung Melayu, Ampang at about 11.30am on Feb 29, 2012.
Noor Azman is represented by lawyer Eric Paulsen.
He had previously testified during his suit on the actress that she had an alleged affair with Rural Development Minister Shafie Apdal and that Zahida had not given him the money.
Noor Azman said he was only asked to deposit a RM120,000 cheque into Zahida's account.
Noor Azman is let off on a RM20,000 bail and two sureties. He is also asked to surrender his passport.
If found guilty, Noor Azman stands to face a maximum jail term of 10 years' and caning and fine.
Previously it was reported that Justice Hue Siew Kheng had asked the police not to disrupt the trial she was presiding by arresting Noor Azman.
Justice Hue asked police that Noor Azman only be arrested after he had given testimony.
Noor Azman's lawyer in the civil proceeding, Latheefa Koya, had complained that the police and attorney general chambers action is akin to intimidation on her client as the warrant was issued in July 14 and the police wanted to made the arrest as he was testifying.
Shafie had denied in 2012 that he had a relationship with the actress. -M'kini
