bullets_langkawi_300LANGKAWI: Police recovered 1,840 rounds of bullets near a fishermen’s jetty at the estuary of Sungai Belanga Pecah here yesterday.
Langkawi police chief Supt Harrith Kam Abdullah said the 7.62 mm calibre Russian made bullets were found by members of the public in a black box near the river mouth at about 1pm.
“Following the find, a police team rushed to the location and discovered 920 rounds of live bullets in the box,” he told a media conference at the Langkawi police headquarters here today.
He said police also recovered 920 rusted bullets packed in a plastic bag near the area at about 6pm.
He said the bullets were believed to be related to the seizure of 16 rifles including a shotgun buried with more than 1,000 rounds of bullets from two local men and a British man in Kampung Belanga Pecah here in September.
He added that further investigations were being carried out.
