Jabu accused of contempt for Court

Lawyers in the know are in consensus that Jabu has brought the Sarawak Assembly into public disrepute with his statement attacking an Assemblyman and should be asked to apologize and censured.
Alfred JabuKUCHING: PKR’s Batu Lintang Assemblyman See Chee How told the Sarawak Assembly on Tues that “Jabu (Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu Anak Numpang) might be thinking that he is clever, but I think he is very confused and unintelligent to understand the (See’s) statement”.
“To a certain extent Jabu is showing contempt by making his own interpretation on the statements made by the judge of the Court of Appeal and the chief justice of Sabah and Sarawak, even if he made the condemnation at the State Assembly,” warned See.
The Batu Lintang Assemblyman disclosed that given half a chance he would lodge a complaint with the chief justice on Jabu misinterpreting a statement made by the Court.
He was referring to Jabu taking exception to him repeating a statement by the Court and accused the Assemblyman of equating Natives with animals.
Jabu poured scorn on See for saying that the “Natives are part of the land as are the trees, mountains, hills, animals, fishes and rivers”.
Jabu in the winding up debate on the Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2014 was replying to points raised by See.
See’s statement, citing the Court, which offended Jabu reads as follows: ”These NCR (native customary rights) claims should be looked at with the concept that the natives are part of the land as are the trees, mountains, hills, animals, fishes and rivers.”
The statement was made by Justice David Wong, now a judge in the Court of Appeal, in the case of Agi Ak Bungkong.
The Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak, Richard Malanjum, repeated and agreed with the statement in the case of Bisi anak Jinggot.
Lawyers in the know are in consensus that Jabu has brought the Sarawak Assembly into public disrepute with his statement attacking See and should be asked to apologize and censured.
