NAJIB DOING HIS BEST TO EMBEZZLE OIL WEALTH? PKR slams Putrajaya over fuel subsidy abolishment
PKR today criticised Putrajaya's decision to abolish the fuel subsidies for RON95 and diesel effective December 1, saying the decision was due to the wastage and leakage of the ruling government.
PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli (pic) said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's administration was doing its best to embezzle Malaysia's wealth by abolishing the subsidies.
"With the abolishment of the fuel and petrol subsidies, all of the nation's wealth from oil and gas has been completely taken over by Barisan Nasional.
"They will decide the allotment which will be given to the rakyat. Najib does not appear to be interested in cracking down on corruption,” Rafizi said in a statement today.
"They are making things worse with scandals such as the 1Malaysia Development Berhad.”
After Putrajaya's decision, Rafizi said the public would no longer enjoy the nation's wealth, which would be spent by the government.
"The issue of petrol and diesel subsidy in Malaysia is not just limited to an economic decision of whether subsidies are good or bad for Malaysia's economy.
"The bigger issue at hand is whether the country's oil and gas wealth is shared with the public, and not just squandered by Putrajaya," Rafizi said.
Urging Putrajaya to retract its decision to abolish the fuel subsidies, he said instead, oil companies should decide on the price of RON95 and diesel based on a ceiling price.
"In this way, the public will be able to choose to buy fuel at the lowest price, and not at the price set by the government."
Rafizi said a demonstration would be held to protest against the government's decision on December 31.
The current retail price of RON95 is RM2.30 a litre while diesel retails at RM2.20 a litre.
Putrajaya's announcement means the average price of RON95 per litre based on global prices from November 1 to 19 is RM2.27 a litre. –TMI
