Ibrahim praises Kit Siang and son, Waytha

Principles matter to them the most, noted the Perkasa Chief.

KUALA LUMPUR: Perkasa President Ibrahim Ali, showing another side of his character, advised downtrodden Malays to take a leaf from leaders like DAP elder statesman Lim Kit Siang, his son and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Hindraf Makkal Sakthi Chief P Waythamoorthy.

These leaders are firm, he noted, “and don’t brook any nonsense from anyone”. Principles matter to them the most, he added.

“Hindraf doesn’t have that many members but yet Waytha was appointed as Senator and a Deputy Minister by a Government eager to woo a large section of the Indians,” pointed out Ibrahim at the Perkasa General Assembly on Sunday.

“When the Hindraf Chief saw that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was not keeping his end of the bargain on promises made to the underclass Indians, the displaced estate workers and stateless, he did not hesitate to resign from the senate, cabinet and government within months.”

DAP, he continued, was in power in only one state i.e. Penang, but both the father and son team of Kit Siang and Guan Eng, stand up for their rights. He asked the gathering whether there were any leaders among the Malays like the three non-Malays he had cited as examples.

“Malays are too apologetic, easily given to breaking down and crying, easily upset,” lamented Ibrahim. “That’s why preaching to Malays is often not very effective.”

The gathering could be forgiven for thinking that Ibrahim could do with a dose of his own advice. He has a reputation for getting easily upset, shooting from the hips, without pausing to think.

His motor mouth is permanently engaged and he never stops to pause and wonder sometimes whether his tantrums will bear any fruit.
