A weird case of over-efficient cops

Probe against a blogger was completed before DAP reported him for allegedly raising racial sentiments.
teo nee chingKUALA LUMPUR: DAP today questioned the integrity of the Home Minister and fairness of the Attorney-General in dealing with a case in which the aggrieved was the opposition party.
In January last year, it was reported that a teacher at the Nan Ya Chinese school in Johor was instructed to remove her scarf during working hours. The teacher had recently converted to Islam and the incident caused some negative public reactions.
However, the controversy died down when the school administration made a public apology.
“Unfortunately a blogger named Azmy Awang Kelana Jaya took the opportunity to write an article entitled ‘DAP is getting stronger in Johor, Islam is increasingly trampled upon,’” Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said in a press statement.
She said a police report was lodged against the blogger on January 18, 2014 for the reason that the article gave a bad perception of DAP and also raised racial sentiments against the party.
When Teo raised the issue in Parliament recently, the Home Minister said the police had completed investigations and had referred the case to the Attorney-General on January 14, 2014.
“How can the investigation be completed on January 14, before the report was made, which was on January 19?” Teo asked in her statement. “This is weird.”
She added that the blogger was still walking free.
Teo said the incident showed that the government applied a double standard in dealing with such cases.
