Are our ministers like the proverbial three monkeys?

Lim Kit Siang says our ministers prefer to see, hear and speak no evil in regard to the letter Zahid sent the FBI on an alleged gambling kingpin.
lim kit isang zahid2KUALA LUMPUR: DAP elder statesman Lim Kit Siang has been left wondering whether Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s infamous letter to the FBI, on behalf of an alleged felon, was raised during the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
“More likely not, as all Ministers who stay in glass houses have learnt not to throw stones,” said Lim, who is also DAP Parliamentary Leader and Gelang Patah MP, in a statement.
The Home Minister’s letter vouching for the integrity of alleged Malaysian gambling kingpin Paul Phua who is standing trial in Las Vegas, Nevada was in direct contradiction to the police’s earlier communication with FBI, he pointed out, “and should have been raised during the Cabinet meeting.”
If Ministers care for the interests and international reputation of the country, the Malaysian system of governance should undergo a national transformation, upholding the principles of accountability and good governance, added Lim.
“Ministers, like ordinary Malaysians, must be piqued to know why Zahid’s letter was withdrawn in the Nevada District Court after Putrajaya objected to it being used in Puah’s defence.”
Zahid’s letter was clearly in defence of Phua, charged Lim. “Who objected to it being used in open court proceedings? Zahid, the Attorney-General, the Police or the Prime Minister himself?”
Lim asked whether Malaysian Ministers are a special breed of politicians who, like the traditional three monkeys, have eyes that see not, ears that hear not, and mouth that speaks not and who are completely uninterested as to what other Ministers are doing or saying, though they are bound by the principle of collective Ministerial responsibility.
“Of course, all this information is top secret under the Official Secrets Act and extra reasons why Ministers mind their own business, oblivious of the principle of the collective responsibility of Ministers to avoid raising ‘embarrassing’ issues affecting other Ministers in the Cabinet.
