Girl gets a kiss, govt gets the blame

PAS says the government has failed to shape the morals of youths.
pas kopkKUALA LUMPUR: PAS has blamed the government for a kiss that a K-pop musician planted on a Muslim girl’s forehead.
Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof, who heads the party’s women’s wing, said the incident proved that the government had failed to shape the morals of the nation’s youth.
She was commenting on an incident on Saturday in which a teenager in headscarf was hugged and kissed when she went on stage during a K-pop concert.
Harakah quoted her as saying today that teenagers these days were copying the attitudes of the current leadership.
“I represent the Muslim Council of PAS and I express regret and embarrassment that the organisers of the show have degraded the morals of teenagers,” she said
“Where is the dignity of the hijab when a Muslim is embraced and kissed on stage in front of a crowd? Where is the authority controlling the situation?” she asked.
Siti Zailah, who is the MP for Rantau Panjang, also said PAS had many times raised the issue of musical concerts.
“We have already asked the government to immediately stop entertainment programmes because they obviously don’t bring any benefit to the youths of today,” she said. “But the warning did not get a positive response. Instead the government told us to look at them as a source of revenue for the country.”
She said Saturday’s incident was another reminder of youths forgetting their morals.
“We urge all parties, especially the muftis, religious departments and the National Fatwa Council, to make a strong stand against the incident so that it won’t happen again.”
The kissing incident received fire from several quarters after a video grab of it surfaced on Facebook.
