Paulsen given seven days to withdraw twitter statement and apologize or risk being sued.
KUALA LUMPUR: Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (ISMA) has given Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) Executive Director, Eric Paulsen, seven days from a January 22 letter of demand to withdraw his twitter statement that the Malay NGO was similar to extremist and militant groups.
The NGO in the fringe also wants Paulsen to apologize for the January 9 statement which reads: “Yes if Govt continues to support or close an eye to extremist groups like Isma & Perkasa.’” The statement was in conjunction with a malaysiakini article, “Paris attack may happen in Malaysia, warns Hisham”.
If Paulsen fails to comply with the letter of demand, warned Isma in a statement on its website, “it will consider taking legal action against him”.
The twitter statement read in conjunction with the article on the Paris attack, claimed lawyer Aidil Khalid, meant that the NGO agreed with the murders at the magazine Charlie Hebdo on January 7, thereby bringing it into public disrepute and contempt “when it was committed towards defending Islam while serving the people at the national and international levels”.
