PR1MA in a prime mess

The Penang state government wants discrepancies within PR1MA to be sorted out to disable syndicates from conning the public into buying homes not under them.
jagdeep-pr1maGEORGE TOWN: The state government wants the Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA) to clearly state details about its residential projects to prevent syndicates from conning the public any further.
State housing and town and country planning executive councillor Jagdeep Singh Deo claimed that confusion caused by the discrepancies in numbers and locations of PR1MA projects not only in Penang, but nationwide, had paved the way for syndicates to con the public by using the government-linked company’s name to sell their homes.
“We are concerned that there are irresponsible parties going around conning people in the low income group using PR1MA,” he told a press conference here today.
He urged PR1MA to take action against these syndicates as it involved the hard earned money of the poor.
Jagdeep also brought up the further confusion caused when PR1MA chief executive officer Abdul Mutalib Alias announced the launch of a PR1MA project in Bertam on the Penang mainland.
Pointing out that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Shahidan Kasim had stated clearly that PR1MA projects would only be developed in Bukit Gelugor, Balik Pulau and Teluk Kumbar, Jagdeep remarked, “So I am confused now over where the projects are actually located.”
He claimed the confusion was compounded by reports in a Malay language national daily regarding a syndicate allegedly conning people into purchasing houses under the banner of PR1MA, a problem that had caused millions in losses according to Abdul Mutalib.
Jagdeep added the state government also did not have details of planned PR1MA projects in Penang as it had not received any application for planning approvals as yet.
