world skills brazilSANDAKAN: Sandakan Industrial Training Institute (ILP) student, Ng Vui Yee, 22, will be representing Malaysia at the 43rd WorldSkills Competition (WSC) in Sao Paulo, Brazil in August.
Ng qualified for the contest after clinching the gold medal in the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning category at the Asean Skills Competition in Hanoi, Vietnam last October.
Sandakan ILP director Khairul Anuar Deni said Ng would be taking Malaysia’s challenge to the world championship which would see 2,000 contestants from 73 countries vying in various categories.
“We hope Ng will be the first student to bring back a medal from the world meet as since its inception in 1943 in Finland, Malaysia has yet to win any medals,” he said at the launch of Ng’s WSC participation here today.
The ceremony was officiated by Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan who presented Ng with the ministry’s incentive of RM5,000 for his victory in Vietnam.
