What Malaysian men are SECRETLY doing to get that promotion

It’s no secret that attractive people have a better chance at getting that job, that promotion and that pay raise compared with the rest of us mere mortals.

Time and time again, studies have proven that people who win the genetic lottery do generally have it easier, and the ugly truth is, good-looking people are seen as more compelling and influential.

That’s pushed more people to turn to aesthetic procedures, and it’s not just women who feel the pressure to stay relevant.

Dr Chen Tai Ho, aesthetic physician and owner of Malaysia’s Mediviron UOA Clinic tells us that there is a growing number of men who are trying to transform themselves into a younger, fitter version of themselves.

“Previously 80 percent of our customers were female and 20 percent were men but now we see that 60 percent of them are female and 40 percent of them are men. We see that more and more men are turning to aesthetics because they have new believe that aesthetics is for everybody and not just for ladies,” he says.

It’s much more than superficial gratification, he stresses. “A person who is more physically attractive will be more confident and this will translate into better performance at work,” the good doctor explains.

Here are three of the most popular procedures among Malaysian men, according to Dr Chen.

Weight loss

“Weight loss medication such as Phentermine reduces your appetite. When your appetite is reduced, you eat less and you lose excess weight. Some people can lose 8kg to 10kg per month depending on their body weight. TThe heavier you are the more weight you will lose. Side effects of these medicines include hand tremors, thirst, inability to sleep, bad mood and erection difficulties for 50 percent of the patients. The other 50 percent do not experience side effects. Most of the side effects usually go off in 1 or 2 weeks as your body gets used to it.”

Fat loss

“Our procedure called Zeltiq Coolsculpting uses a technology called Cryolipolysis. Used on the surface of the skin, it freezes and destroys fat cells at 5 ℃ without damaging the overlying skin. This is because fat is more sensitive to cold compared to muscles, nerves or skin tissue. You will see results in three to four months. Another option for slimming is by using radio frequency. There are various radio frequency machines used for body sculpting and slimming.

Both the Zeltiq Coolsculpting and radio frequency are not for weight loss but for fat loss whereby you lose inches but your weight will remain the same or maybe just slightly reduced. Both these fat loss treatments are suitable for people of normal or near to normal weight who have certain areas of fat which they need to focus on.”

Hair-related treatments

“Another procedure favoured by men are hair-related treatments. We have hair-loss tablets such as Finasteride and hair-loss sprays such as Minoxidil. These have to be consumed or used for at least 6 months before you can see results and you need to be on them for the rest of your life.

Other hair-related procedures are hair transplants where the doctor will take hairs from the back of your head and transplant it into the balding area. Another option is hair implants, where the doctor will take synthetic hair which looks and feels like real hair and implant it into the balding area.” - BI
