Zam: MCA is racist and The Star is evil

The former minister warns Muslims to beware of the paper's 'subtle campaign' against Muslims.
zam the star MCA2PETALING JAYA: Former information minister and veteran journalist Zainuddin Maidin has launched a blistering attack against MCA and its mouthpiece The Star over comments relating to the recent killings at the Paris office of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
He says it became obvious that MCA “is controlled by Chinese extremists” when the chairman of its Religious Harmony Bureau, Ti Lian Ker, while taking offence at Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali’s comment on the Paris killings, “completely ignored the wild provocation” of Muslim feelings that came from Lawyers for Liberty founder Eric Paulsen.
Paulsen, in a Twitter message that has enraged some Muslims and made him the subject of a police probe, alleged that Friday sermons often inspired extremism.
Ibrahim, in a statement condemning the Charlie Hebdo killings, said the tragedy was the result of the French government’s inaction against the distribution of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement quoted by The Star today, Ti called for a police probe of the Perkasa chief for his remark.
Zainuddin recalls that former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin’s reactions to the killings were similar to Ibrahim’s and asks whether Ti wants them investigated as well.
“Are the comments by Ibrahim, Mahathir and Khairy on a faraway event more dangerous than Eric Paulsen’s statement, which provoked Muslims in this country right in front of MCA? Has MCA been blinded by its thick Chinese chauvinism?” he asks.
He calls on “all Muslims in this country” to beware that The Star, “with the support of racist elements in MCA as well as Christian extremists”, is carrying on a “subtle and evil campaign to cause discord among Muslims and to sow hatred towards Muslims and Malays among the other communities in the country.”
He interprets Ti’s statement as meaning that he wants the Malaysian government to tolerate it if The Star were to publish a caricature of the Prophet.
