KUALA LUMPUR - Former Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim, who built the largest law practice in the country, has complained that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak spoilt his weekend by announcing seven decrees to make Malays great.
“The decrees are laughable,” said Zaid. “Try to compare with mine. Najib should not worry too much about making Malays great. Try to make them debt-free and ensure that they have a roof over their head first.”
Education, he stressed, must be left to educationists.
“For Malays to be great, they must first be brave. Najib should start by leading by example. He can allow jailed Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim to attend Parliament when it re-convenes on Monday, March 9.”
Also, he said, Malay leaders must be honest and corruption-free.
They should not be the kind of Muslim leaders who abuse religion for business and politics and abuse privileges; and they should ensure that brothers in the family respect each other.
“Moderate Malays do not spend lavishly,” he ventured.
Finally, he said, there must be Malay leaders better than what the country has now. “Quality is important.” -FMT
