The Kuala Lumpur High Court has set Friday to hear an application by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for leave to challenge the decision barring him from attending Parliament, The Star online reported.
High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) judge Datuk Asmabi Mohamad allowed the application upon request by the Attorney-General's Chambers.
The opposition leader filed the application through his lawyer N. Surendran on March 18, seeking for the court to override the home minister and commissioner-general of Prison’s decision to bar him from attending Parliament, which began meeting on March 3.
Anwar, who is in Sungai Buloh prison, said through a supporting affidavit that he was still a member of the Dewan Rakyat and the opposition leader as the petition for a royal pardon to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had yet to be decided.
The Federal Court on February 10 upheld Anwar's conviction of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.
His family members have filed an appeal for a royal pardon and he remains an MP pending a decision from the Agong.
