Kit Siang has 'COME TO HIS SENSES' in proposing new coalition govt - analyst

KUALA LUMPUR - DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang is coming to his senses by proposing the “Save Malaysia” coalition, an alliance comprising Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers.

Political observer Datuk Abdul Razak Baba said Lim had come to the realisation that that the party could not do much to help the people if it remained in the Opposition.

“You can have ideals on how to help the people, but at the end of the day you need resources which can only come if you are part of the federal government.

“Perhaps, Lim has realised that DAP has been fighting for too long on the Opposition side.

“I’m not saying he is ashamed of being in the Opposition, but he might not have time left to give the people what they want, especially the Chinese community which voted for DAP,” he told The Rakyat Post.

He said the Chinese community wanted peace and prosperity, including full employment, good social security, affordable housing, and living without fear and uncertainty from the implementation of hudud, which was being pushed by DAP’s partner, PAS.

Razak noted that politicians were often rejected by voters because they had failed in office.

Lim, he claimed, did not feel confident that Pakatan Rakyat would see victory in the next general election in view of the hudud debacle.

Razak also felt that Lim had apparently realised that it was not that easy to change a government.

Political analyst Wong Chin Huat said the “Save Malaysia” coalition was triggered by the push to implement hudud in Kelantan, which was posing a serious challenge to Pakatan.

The question, he said, was how politicians could build a social coalition in line with the new political alignment.

The political elites, Wong felt, would need to make different communities buy into something larger.

“They must have a common vision to capture the imagination of the people to bring different social groups together.”

On the listing of several BN lawmakers by Lim as possible candidates for the post of Prime Minister under the “Save Malaysia” coalition, Wong said the DAP stalwart was entitled to give his opinion.
